How to remap Bixby to Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy S10, Annotation 9, and other 1 UI devices

At Samsung Unpacked, Samsung appear their new Samsung Galaxy S10 serial and Milky way Fold. After the printing discovered a new option in Bixby, Samsung confirmed that the button would be natively remappable. With an update released to the Bixby app on older One UI devices today, this is finally possible. However, it wasn't all adept news. Samsung is limiting the apps you can launch with the button. That means the Bixby button can't natively launch Google Assistant, but nosotros have a solution.

Samsung blacklisted other assistant apps from existence able to exist used past the button. That includes Amazon Alexa and Microsoft Cortana along with Google Assistant. Nosotros were able to get around this by using a Tasker script and exporting information technology equally an APK. This means all you need to do is install the app, select it in the settings, and cull Google when yous press the button.

This app also supports more than than just Google Assistant. We were able to besides launch the Cortana app, but it doesn't work with Amazon Alexa. In theory, whatsoever app that supports answering vocalization commands can exist remapped to the push with this method. Any phone that supports Bixby button remapping, including the Galaxy S10/S10+/S10e, Galaxy S9/S9+,  and the Galaxy Note ix and Galaxy Notation 8 will support using Assistant.

Remap Bixby with Bixby Button Assistant Remapper

  2. Install the app
  3. Open up Bixby Voice Settings
  4. Select Bixby key
  5. Cull Double press to open Bixby

  8. Detect Bixby Button Assistant Remapper and select it
  9. Press the physical Bixby button and select the assistant app you want to utilize (click ever so it doesn't ask every fourth dimension)
  10. That's it!

It is also possible to do this without the required app by setting up a Bixby quick command. Y'all but ready a quick control to "open assistant." I would recommend the app method, though. In my testing of the quick command, information technology wasn't equally fast and it simply worked effectually 20% of the time. Other users have reported very reliable results, then your mileage may vary.

  13. That's it!

It's overnice that Samsung is finally letting users remap the button to something else on the Galaxy S10, Galaxy Annotation 9, and other Ane UI devices. While yous tin't fully disable Bixby, you tin relegate it to a double-press and put your preferred app to the forefront. Hopefully, Samsung doesn't do anything in the future to suspension this workaround.
