Does anyone know what the purpose of the Asmedia USB drivers available from my mobo manufacturer are? The installation of these are declining on my machine with a make clean Win 10 1703 installation.

The lath is Asus Z97-A. Version V1.16.35.one is what's bachelor at the mobo manufacturer driver download page.
The driver keeps declining to install. In my brief look over the installation log I saw something nigh a newer version being installed. Are these drivers what allow full USB 3 functionality?

I have this program called USB Device Tree Viewer and if I'1000 reading things correctly my USB ports are only running at USB 1.0 speeds. I'm still non sure what's wrong with the ASmedia drivers...

It turns out my Asus Z97-A motherboard doesn't have an Asmedia USB controller, there is a Z97-A USB iii.1 version that does though...
The USB controller on my Z97-A is an Intel. Yet the Win x download page for Z97-A has Asmedia USB drivers. In my discussions at Ten forums we're still unsure if the Asmedia drivers are of any utilise to the standard Z97-A. A newer Asmedia driver was suggested, I decided to try and install it anyway and this version did install without the above mentioned error.
Now to work out whether the commuter is of any use to the Z97-A. If it helps anyone the other thread is here: https://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/84829-asmedia-usb-3-0-drivers-installation-failure.html

That could exist a database mixup at Asus.
I have seen other makers drivers work with hardware before, its ofttimes a fix for killer internet, just use the Intel drivers... so maybe. The differences in USB may non be that big, might be sure standards they all accept to meet. D-Link us realtek drivers for wifi...

Database mixup I tend to recollect possible also. It was actually at the Asus forums that a member seemed sure the Z97-A doesn't have an Asmedia USB controller but he didn't give an explanation as to why those drivers were on the Z97-A page.
If the Z97-A USB is an Intel you lot would think Asus would take those drivers on the download page but and so again I know they're slow to test and update the pages. Information technology's still rather inconclusive, perhaps if I contact Asus directly I can get the answer.
Did the Asmedia drivers install on your Z97 Pro?

i suspect i am using the Microsoft drivers and non Asus ones. That is all I detect under HID anyway. I exercise have an Asmedia SATA controller so its unclear really
funny though as my board does have Asmedia USB
Intel® Z97 chipset : half-dozen x USB three.0/2.0 port(s) (two at back panel, blueish, 4 at mid-board) Intel® Z97 chipset : 6 x USB 2.0/i.1 port(south) (ii at back console, , iv at mid-board) ASMedia® USB three.0 controller : 2 x USB port(s) (ii at back panel, blueish)
simply I don't use all the USB ports then may non fifty-fifty use them.
would Intel withal be releasing new drivers for a 4 year sometime chipset? I come across them merely doing that if the originals didn't have the right signatures to work with Win 10

On the Z97-A download page there is no USB drivers at all for Win 8. For Win 7 it has an Intel USB commuter and for Win 10 information technology has the Asmedia drivers which is the strange ane.
I've emailed Asus so hopefully this tin can exist cleared up.

same blueprint exists generally for my board and USB, Intel did have a win 8 driver just just Asmedia in 10 - its possible the Microsoft driver is the Intel one though. All MS drivers have the incorrect dates, they all say they from 2008 which is non possible. And so can't become by release dates to tell if they are new or old intel drivers. USB 3 is congenital into windows 8 & ten, not 7. Mayhap that is the reason in that location aren't new drivers besides.

Yes I find manufacturers using their own driver numbers and dates frustrating, you can nearly never know what the equivalent of a Microsoft driver is.
What exercise you hateful USB three is built into windows viii & 10? The driver or something else? I know the chipset driver is needed as part of USB existence able to operate but not certain exactly what.

windows 10 supports USB 3 out of the box, it doesn't need boosted drivers to apply them, At present try to install win 7 on a Z270 motherboard that only has two USB 2 slots and you will empathise what I hateful. On win seven you have to install USB drivers to use the slots, which can be difficult with only two USB 2 slots that work - and you lot demand mouse/kb plugged into them. Sure, tin can put drivers on a partition on hdd and by pass that just its additional work formatting drive before you install windows, or having them all on a 2nd drive..
USB drivers may add boosted functions but they aren't commonly essential for win 10. Newer forms of USB volition just make win x like win 7 unless they can add support as it ages... and they can.

In that case possibly that's why the mobo manufacturers aren't providing USB drivers for Win 10, and whatsoever drivers that are available are more for boosted functions as yous say. It'southward quite possible.
